Of course Thanksgiving has a bit of a dark side to it (historically speaking), but while I used to eschew the holiday (or, at least, do so on an internal and philosophical level) it’s become a important day for me in the past decade or so. I’ve been fortunate enough to consistently spend my Thanksgivings with friends, family, or sometimes both and, in addition to the happiness that those gatherings bring into my life, I’ve really come to enjoy using the day to reflect on what I have and practice gratitude. Fortunately, I fell into a habit of doing this type of reflection on a fairly regular basis (must me my old age) but Thanksgiving remains the quintessential time for it.
